Tatum O Neal
Born: Nov 5, 1963
At ten years of age, this actress made history with her film debut as the tough-talking, cigarettesmoking orphan in Paper Moon (1973), opposite her real-life father, Ryan O'Neal. She stole the movie from him and won an Academy Award for her performancethe youngest performer ever to do so. For a while, she was Hollywood's hot child actor, with hand-tailored roles in the baseball comedy The Bad News Bears and Nickelodeon (both 1976) and the horseracing drama International Velvet (1978), but efforts at more mature parts in 1980's Little Darlings (paired with Kristy McNichol) and Circle of Two (in which she appeared topless as a student in love with a 60-year-old artist played by Richard Burton) were coolly received. After the wretched Certain Fury (1985), she retired from acting to marry tennis player John McEnroe and raise a family. (They have since broken up.) O'Neal made a TV movie, 15 and Getting Straight (1989), returned to the big screen in the 1991 independent feature Little Noises and starred in the title role of the TV movie Woman on the Run: The Lawrencia Bembenek Story (1993).
