Although born in Perth, Australia, Monica Mayem grew up in Brisbane, and her family moved to Sydney when she was 16. She wound up doing some softcore photo shoots in London and then decided to try exotic dancing and managed to land a gig at the world-famous Spearmint Rhino club. One night she met up with one of the owners, they got drunk together, decided to fly to the U.S. and wound up in Texas. She eventually made her way to Los Angeles, where she broke into the porn industry.
